Gender inequality in education and employment

Author: Nandhini Nanjappan
Importance of education:
Generally people believe that education is important to each and every one. “The purpose of education is to encourage and guide man as a conscious, thinking and perceiving being in such a way that he becomes a pure and perfect representation of that divine inner law through goal”(Froebel, 1887). Education is a basic need for the development (Human), economic growth and society development (Sharma, 2007; World Bank, 1993). Education is the only thing can achieve development on over all his/her soul, mind and body and generally individual development depending on education whether it’s formal or non-formal education. Educated person can think critically with innovative ideas whether it is women or men which they can implement in their work force or in their life. With his/her own personal choice; education must show him the ways and meanings of life.
Education inequality:
Who wanted to be educated and why? Everybody has rights to get education but which is not happening in every corner of the world, there are millions of children who denied to being educated. And I would like to point out here is that who can reaches till higher education only those people who all are in the high caste, high class people can reach till higher education and those people are getting high level talent to select or get the high position job. And lower caste or lower economic background people will get lower education qualification, low talent and they can work where their knowledge can fit into it. So there is the disparity in providing education to all. In some extent education is refusing to give an equal education to all from the primary level to till higher level education.

Gender disparity in education:

In giving education still exist gender disparity in India especially rural areas. There are people who believes “No need of girls’ or woman’s education”. Only male children have rights to get an education not to girl (Am unable to find out what kind of difference exists between boys and girls performance (in attainment and working knowledge). These kinds of disparities exist in their employment sectors too, in diversity of employments. There is in both the way formally and informally gender discrimination has existed which we need to change the notion of the people. Although there is an improvement in participating women in education as well in paid and unpaid labor forces. But that is not mean that women achieved the men’s position and his hierarchy in doing job or getting education. Even those disparity exists in the academic also like boys are good at specific subjects and girl’s are good at some specific subjects. What makes them to think like what girl can do better than the boy and the same what boy can do better than the girl? Even if we have open access all kinds of jobs for woman’s, she will not be taking some select jobs because she has bonded with some cultural or traditional occupations. And she can/should select which job will give assure to her her in terms of security/safety. But I could claim the statement is that whatever the opportunities men's are getting in order to freedom in society as well education domine, if the woman gets the same opportunity to explore her knowledge in the employment force or education domine. There will be equal participation or contribution in her employment force.

Women and liberation in selecting job:
Women’s participation was the key to the liberation of women (Landes, 1989). An entry of women in labor force is an important for their liberation. Education is an important which we are living in the modern world which can increase the female employment to increase the economic. We could say that urban women have got somewhat liberation in selecting her job than the rural women. Urban women can do whatever she wants with her own choice of work and these kinds of liberation women have in urban area because of her education or surroundings. Which rural women does not have or cannot imagine but still they have engaged in the daily wages and agricultural but no one is not considering her contribution as employment. And in her work, she will not able to reach the position of urban women. For this conditions of her, probable she might not have formal education as urban women has. Because they believes themselves do not have confident to be like a bold women even though if they have quality of being so.
Impact on uneducated woman’s sector:
Because of uneducated women economic growth is befitting in both the way in organized and unorganized sector like (home and outside of the home). Whatever the money that she is getting, she is spending her money in unorganized sector (for family welfare) than the men. However in the developing context of the world. Uneducated women (lack of education) leads them to do work as a domestic labor or seasonal labors although uneducated woman’s works are economically productive. Low skilled women sector like “free trade” even wherever she engaged with unorganized sectors in those jobs can able to work without any pre training but when it comes to well organized and with well educational qualified person cannot enter into the employment force without any pre training. Where our investment differs between organized and unorganized sector.
Need to be mould:
There is lots of thing which need to be change or need to be mould from the traditional way of looking at women or girl. In order to wherever she belongs to whether she is from the rural or urban, educated or uneducated, organized or unorganized sector. There should be the systematic plan in getting into employment force. And we need to break the norms in gender disparities in giving education from the primary to till to get an employment by providing without any power playing into it. Like there should not be hierarchy in getting jobs in gender based. And there is no need of ranking or positions is that educated person should get job and uneducated person not to get job. (even those people will be getting jobs where they can fit theirs knowledge into the employment force).
Agricultural (former) should be include as an employer because in this sector men and women both are involving in agricultural. Because I could strongly claim the statement is that Agricultural sector is contributing to develop economic growth than any other organized sector (if we increase the production of agricultural).
